University Hospital of Brooklyn

University Hospital of Brooklyn (UHB) is quaternary care institution that is the principal teaching hospital of SUNY Downstate Medical Center. The University and the Hospital are proud homes to medical innovation and sophisticated clinical care. The hospital has approximately 325 beds and is a parent institution to over twenty residencies and fellowships. UHB is the "home base" for our residents.  It is a 376 Bed academic hospital, with an attached medical school, nursing school, and college of health related professions.  Residents spend most of their time at UHB at Kings County Hospital, with access to both clinical and basic science research opportunities. Residents rotate in Surgical Pathology, Cytology, Hematopathology, Neuropathology, Autopsy, Transfusion Medicine, Chemistry, Microbiology, Laboratory Management, and Informatics.

The Department of Pathology & Cell Biology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center and the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University offers an extraordinary opportunity for ACGME-accredited training in Pathology in a vibrant medical and cultural setting. All residents participate in medical student teaching in the College of Physicians & Surgeons.

The department is proud of its long history of training men and women for leadership roles in diagnostic, academic and research pathology and for careers in the clinical practice of pathology. The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology has 144 full-time faculty members (both clinical and basic, 19 fellows, and 23 residents.)

Maimonides Medical Center is a 711 bed hospital, the largest in Brooklyn, with all major surgical specialties, and a busy surgical pathology service.  MMC has an advanced children hospital, with the more babies delivered annually than any other hospital in New York, giving residents a unique insight into placental pathology.  The clinical pathology experience at MMC includes a Blood Bank with an integrated blood donor center.  Downstate Pathology residents rotate at MMC for Cytology, Hematopathology, Breast Pathology, and Transfusion Medicine.

The Department of Pathology includes five clinical services — Autopsy, Cytology, Diagnostic Molecular Pathology, Hematopathology, and Surgical Pathology — as well as the research-based Division of Experimental Pathology. We generate more than 170,000 diagnostic reports each year.
